THIS MAY SEEM LIKE A VERY OBVIOUS CHOICE ON THE SURFACE, BUT STARFIELD DOES A GOOD JOB OF LAYERING ON THE IMMERSION AND YOU'LL CONSTANTLY FIND YOURSELF GOING THROUGH ALL THE MOTIONS OF BOARDING YOUR SHIP, FUMBLING WITH THE STAR CHART, FINDING WHERE YOU WANT TO GO, TRAVELING TO YOUR DESIRED PLANET, FINDING A PLACE TO EXIT, THEN CONTINUING YOUR JOURNEY.  SOMETIMES THIS IS NECESSARY, BUT OFTEN TIMES ITS NOTHING MORE THAN CLEVER IMMERSION SMOKE AND MIRRORS WHICH CAN EAT UP A LOT OF YOUR TIME IN THE LONG RUN.

A VERY NICE QUALITY OF LIFE ACTION FOR THIS IS TO BRING UP YOUR QUEST MENU, LOCATE THE QUEST YOU WISH TO BEGIN OR CONTINUE, CHOOSE THE “SET COURSE” OPTION, THEN CHOOSE TO LAND DIRECTLY AT YOUR LOCATION.

I WENT IN GUNS BLAZING IN THE EARLY GAME LIKE A CRAZY PERSON AND FOUND MYSELF CONSTANTLY TREADING WATER WITH HEALTH.  THERE WERE SEEMINGLY VERY FEW ACTUAL MED PACKS IN THE VERY EARLY GAME, LEAVING ME CONSTANTLY HUNTING FOR FOOD ITEMS LAYING AROUND FOR HEALTH. YOU ALMOST CANT COLLECT ENOUGH OF THESE EARLY ON. 

 

THE GOOD NEWS IS THEY ARE EVERYWHERE, THE BAD NEWS IS, MOST OF THEM RESTORE VERY LITTLE HEALTH AND IT TAKES SEVERAL TO ACTUALLY BE EFFECTIVE.  FOR ME PERSONALLY, I FOUND THE NUTRITION TALENT UNDER THE PHYSICAL SKILLS CATEGORY TO BE VERY HELPFUL.  AFTER 2 POINTS IN THE TREE YOUR FOOD AND DRINK CONSUMABLES ARE 20% MORE EFFECTIVE, HEALING YOU FOR MORE AND REQUIRING YOU TO HUNT FOR THEM LESS.  AFTER A WHILE HOWEVER, ACTUAL MED PACKS BEGAN TO DROP A LITTLE MORE OFTEN AND THIS WAS A BIT LESS OF AN ISSUE, BUT IT CERTAINLY FELT VERY VALUABLE IN MY EARLY HOURS OF COMBAT.

INVENTORY MANAGEMENT

INVENTORY MANAGEMENT IN STARFIELD IS BOTH BRUTAL AND CONSTANT.  I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE GAME BUT THIS ISSUE IS BY FAR MY LARGEST NEGATIVE CRITIQUE.  ITS JUST SOMETHING I TYPICALLY DON’T ENJOY BEING FORCED TO MICROMANAGE. YOU CAN SHUFFLE STUFF AROUND BETWEEN CREW MEMBERS AND YOUR SHIP BUT IT NEVER SEEMS TO BECOME LESS BURDENSOME

 

THE WEIGHT LIFTING TALENT IN THE PHYSICAL SKILLS CATEGORY REALLY TOOK THE EDGE OFF FOR ME HERE.  THE STARTING WEIGHT YOU CAN CARRY IN THE GAME IS JUST TOO LOW, ESPECIALLY WITH THE AMOUNT OF ITEMS YOU ALMOST ARE REQUIRED TO PICK UP ALONG THE WAY.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND A FEW EARLY POINTS HERE TO REALLY TAKE THE EDGE OFF OF THE REQUIREMENT INVENTORY MICROMANAGENT YOU HAVE TO PERFORM ALONG THE WAY.

OXYGEN AND JET PACK SWIM

OUR FINAL TIP MAY SEEM A LITTLE SILLY, BUT ITS BEEN BOTH AN OBJECTIVE INCREASE TO MY ENJOYMENT OF THE GAME AND ITS JUST SIMPLY FUN TO DO.  THAT IS WHAT I AM CALLING THE JETPACK SWIM!  OXYGEN MANAGEMENT CAN BE DOWNRIGHT BRUTAL IN SOME PLACES OF STARFIELD CAUSING YOU TO CONSTANTLY LIMIT YOUR ACTIONS AND MOVEMENT SPEED, BALANCING THE AMOUNT OF 02 AND CO2 IN YOUR SYSTEM.  JETPACK USE HOWEVER DOES NOT COMSUME ANY OXYGEN TO USE. UNDER THE TECH SKILLS TREE THERE IS A JETPACK TALENT.  2 POINTS HERE ALLOWS YOU TO COMFORTABLY GET 3 MID AIR FORWARD MOMENTUM BOOSTS WHILE RUNNING. 

 

YOU DON’T LOSE YOUR SPRINTING FORWARD MOMENTUM AND YOUR O2 ACTUALLY BEGINGS REFILLING WHILE IN THE AIR. AFTER 3 BOOSTS YOU SIMPLY WAIT FOR YOUR BOOST TO REFILL AND DO IT AGAIN!
